Why photography is one of the most important inventions of the 19th century and where we are headed as an industry.
SPEAKER: At the young age of 20, Jens immigrated to the United States from Denmark and was sponsored by a local photographer and business owner who introduced him to the world of photography. Two years later, Jens started Pictureline Inc., a camera store in Salt Lake City that is still going strong after 33 years. Much of Pictureline's success is due to Jens's ability to adapt to the constantly changing photography industry. He began by first accommodating the professional film photographers, but he has kept up well with the fast-paced digital scene that now includes video and motion picture. Even with an ever-evolving business, Jens still keeps his customers at heart of his work. His face lights up when he can teach others about photography and help customers find exactly what they need. He often takes time out of his busy schedule to greet long-time customers as well as assist new clients. Jens's passion for photography can be seen in his desire to expand the knowledge of all photographers, whether they are amateurs or professionals. Besides teaching Pictureline’s popular "More to Photography" class series, he has also taught various seminars focused on scanning, archiving, and preserving photos. He is also known for hosting lectures, events, and workshops at the Pictureline store. With 33 years of experience owning and running one of the most successful camera stores in the United States, Jens has a fundamental understanding of what makes a great photographer.
